The Denver Greens support Denver’s May Day General Strike and similar actions taking place world-wide. We offer our appreciation to the Denver IWW Branch and Occupy Denver for organizing the General Strike and the rally taking place on May 1.

The Denver Greens recognize that the IWW has been active for over a century, fighting for workplace democracy and better conditions for the working class.

May Day General Strike

The Denver Greens recognize that the Occupy movement has been successful more recently in mobilizing a massive movement against corporate abuses and an unjust distribution of wealth.

Both the IWW and the Occupy movement have been successful at bringing these issues to the masses. As a political party based on grassroots activism, the Green Party has undeniably been influenced by both of these organizations. Although the Green Party works both through activism and electoral politics, we understand that our success is strongly influenced by organizations and movements that operate in a non-partisan manner.

The Green Party’s platform takes a strong stance in support of workers and their rights to strike, form a union, and collectively bargain. Several of the Green Party’s 10 Key Values are relevant to the May Day General Strike, especially Grassroots Democracy, Decentralization of Wealth and Power, and Community Based Economics.

It’s the May Day strike, and many Greens will support this movement by spending the day in protest and celebration. The Denver Greens, specifically, officially support the strike, and will be present at the May Day March today in Denver.

For those unaware of the Green Party platform, you can find out more about it here. Our party is a party of the people, seeking to free the world from the grip of corporate influence. We pursue this goal through a platform of nonviolent, community-based economics and environmental wisdom. Each Green Local is a true reflection of its community membership, and when you vote Green you know you will be voting for someone who believes in Green values that support our communities and our planet for the long term, not for short term gains.

Dr. Stein came to Colorado to support our movement to legalize cannabis. On April 20 she spoke to a rally of thousands of souls about the message of a Green future. She has heard and responded to the call for social tolerance.

May Day March in Denver

She made time to personally speak with members of the community and listened to the local needs for wise energy policies that do not waste millions of gallons of water fracking wells under our farms.

She heard our call for a serious look at our health care system and the need to address rising costs without giving more handouts to big pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Stein has heard the call for our soldiers to return home, for an end to empire and a focus on America’s infrastructure and America’s Green future.

Today, May Day, the Green Party of Colorado is calling on the people to support Dr. Stein’s campaign for the presidency. Protest this system that favors corporate wealth with a personal donation of your own to a candidate who will be there for you when she reaches the White House.

Make this a Money Bloom to remember! By attaining just $5,000 from each state, the campaign will have enough funds to qualify for Matching Funds. That means a greater chance for our party to have a seat at the table for the debates this year.

Won’t it be something to have a candidate actually speak to the need for Cannabis and Hemp Legalization? Single-payer health coverage? A halt to home foreclosures? Student loan forgiveness?

Make that dream a reality today with a personal donation to the campaign!

We want YOU to run for office!

Are you tired of government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations?

Are you concerned about our economic meltdown, global warming, and loss of freedoms?

Are you outraged by corrupt politicians who won’t respond to the challenges facing us?

Are you seeking a real alternative to “the lesser of two evils”?

Are you looking for a populist champion?

Maybe it’s time you looked in the mirror!

The Green Party of Colorado has permanent ballot status, so we can run candidates for county, state and federal offices. If you meet the qualifications, and gain endorsement by your local or state party, you can run for County Commissioner, Judge, District Attorney, State Board of Education, State Representative, State Senate, U.S. Congress, or even President.

To run for office as a Colorado Green, you cannot be registered to vote in any other party, and must be registered as a Green at least two months prior to our state nominating convention, which will take place between March 31 and April 14. You must announce your intention to run to your local party chair or a state co-chair at least 45 days before the convention. That means registering Green by January 31 (to be safe) and contacting your party chair by Feb. 15.
