Are you tired of government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations?

Are you concerned about our economic meltdown, global warming, and loss of freedoms?

Are you outraged by corrupt politicians who won’t respond to the challenges facing us?

Are you seeking a real alternative to “the lesser of two evils”?

Are you looking for a populist champion?

Maybe it’s time you looked in the mirror!

The Green Party of Colorado has permanent ballot status, so we can run candidates for county, state and federal offices. If you meet the qualifications, and gain endorsement by your local or state party, you can run for County Commissioner, Judge, District Attorney, State Board of Education, State Representative, State Senate, U.S. Congress, or even President.

To run for office as a Colorado Green, you cannot be registered to vote in any other party, and must be registered as a Green at least two months prior to our state nominating convention, which will take place between March 31 and April 14. You must announce your intention to run to your local party chair or a state co-chair at least 45 days before the convention. That means registering Green by January 31 (to be safe) and contacting your party chair by Feb. 15.

From the Harley Mikkelson for U.S. President website:

President Obama has not brought about the change I was hoping for and the Republicans running for President do not advocate changes I favor. Therefore, I have decided to seek the Green Party of the United States Presidential Nomination.

I was a member of the working class for all the years I was employed . It is the working class perspective I hope to bring to this race. I do not want the Green Party to be the party of a small group of left wing intellectuals. I want to represent people who shop at Walmart as well as Macy’s. I want to represent working people such as teachers, factory workers, farmers, government employees, health care workers, etc…

There are many problems facing our country and to solve them will require some sacrifices from most of us. Yes, we need to tax people who earn more than $250.000 a year more and people earning more than a million even more. We may even need to ask people who are earning less than $50,000 a year to pay some additional taxes. This extra tax revenue is needed to provide jobs, educational opportunities, and health care.

The Green Party needs to present Green alternatives to the policies of the Republicans and Democrats in power. I hope to do this.

Tanya Ishikawa won a seat on the Federal Heights City Council in the Nov. 1 election with 67.5 percent of the vote. She earned 206 votes, compared to the other candidate in the race who had 99 votes, according to unofficial final election results from Adams County. Federal Heights is a city just north of Denver, Colo., with approximately 13,000 residents. Ishikawa was elected to the seven-person city council to represent Ward I, which had 806 active voters in autumn 2011.

Ishikawa, 45, will serve four years as a city council member, which is a nonpartisan position. She served on Federal Heights City Council from 2007 to 2009, after being unanimously appointed to fill a vacancy. During her previous service, she was proud to contribute to making sound financial decisions for the city, helping approve funding for a trail extension, assisting a citizen in getting a bus stop re-designated, and providing a voice of advocacy for low-income and disabled residents.

The Campaign to Elect Tanya Ishikawa raised $545 to cover its $545 expenses, which included spending on one postcard mailing, car magnets, and door hangers. A team of eight volunteers, mainly from various local Green chapters on Colorado’s Front Range, assisted in delivering the door hangers to nearly 500 households around the ward. Other volunteers assisted with getting petition signatures to get Ishikawa’s name on the ballot, creating voter lists and labels, and making phone calls to voters not at home when volunteers visited. The campaign re-used yard signs created during a 2009 city council election, when Ishikawa lost by 9 votes to the other candidate.

Ishikawa is an award-winning professional writer and editor, who works for various magazines, newspapers and other publications. She is also a filmmaker and freelance videographer, a part-time substitute teacher at a K-12 school in her neighborhood, and a mother of a 6-year-old son who is in 1st grade at The Studio School in Adams 12 Five Star Schools. She serves on the board of her neighborhood HOA and is board vice president of the Open Media Foundation, which operates Denver’s public access TV station and community media training center.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has been active for almost two months. These brave patriots are a symbol of the struggle that 99% of us face every day. The Green Party has historically fought against social and economic injustices. We have never and will never accept corporate donations. Green voters can always be counted on to support nonviolent and environmentally sound candidates.

It is in this spirit that the Green Party of Colorado lends its full support to the Occupiers in their protest against a historic wealth imbalance, corporate-guided legislation, corporate personhood, and the US military economy. Like many Occupy Wall Street protestors, the Green Party of Colorado demands the voices of the working class be heard over the needs of the moneyed interests that have been guiding United States policy for decades.

Within the Occupy Wall Street movement, many strong Green values can be seen in action: grassroots democracy, decentralization, social and economic justice, gender equality, personal and global responsibility, and diversity. It is our focus on the future that drives us and is our impetus for change.

Occupiers! The Green Party of Colorado, in conjunction with our active locals throughout the state, is here to support your movement. We welcome you to join with the Greens in kind. Every Occupier who registers Green is making a statement against the two party corporate system that has driven our country to the brink. Don’t stop with an Independent registration. Align yourself and your talents with your local Green party. Let’s see what a Green Congress can accomplish in 2012!

October 29, 2011 – For Immediate Release

Greens of Adams/Jefferson Counties Stand in Solidarity

with Occupy Movement

The Adams-Jefferson Greens announce our support of the Occupy movement in Denver, Boulder and surrounding cities as well as cities across Colorado and America. By way of the 10 Key Values of the Green Party of Colorado and the articulated platforms of the national Green Party, our local Green chapter is aligned with and fully supportive of the approach, the stated issues, and the full exercise of the Occupy movement members’ rights, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America for individuals to peaceably assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances.

We wish to express our solidarity with the Occupy cause and our empathy with those intrepid souls mobilized to demonstrate for that cause, peacefully revolting against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations. We believe it is of utmost importance to the citizens of our counties and the nation to expose how the richest 1 percent of people are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing on the future of the 99 percent.

Further, we express our sense of aversion to all militaristic police force used in the suppression of Occupy demonstrators, such as in Denver and New York City. We are appalled by the recent police violence in Oakland, Calif., which has resulted in the hospitalization of an Occupy Oakland supporter who was also a two tour Iraq war vet, Scott Olsen. Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Olsen, his friends and family, as do our wishes for his full and speedy recovery.

The 10 Key Values of the Colorado Green Party, which guide all political and policy decisions of its members, candidates and elected officials, are:

Grassroots Democracy

Social Justice and Equal Opportunity

Ecological Wisdom

Non-Violence

Decentralization

Community Based Economics and Economic Justice

Feminism and Gender Equality

Respect for Diversity

Personal and Global Responsibility

Future Focus and Sustainability
