PROPOSAL NUMBER: 001-06
PROPOSAL NUMBER: 001-06
1. Date proposed 01/21/2006. Sponsor: Arapahoe Green Party
2. TITLE:
Arapahoe Green Party hosting the 2006 State GPOC Meeting
3. FULL PROPOSAL:
Proposal to host the 2006 State GPOC Meeting at University Park United Methodist Church, 2180 S. University Blvd., Denver, Colorado on May 13, 2006, by the Arapahoe Green Party.
4. BACKGROUND:
The Colorado election calender states that May 25th is the last day to file minor/major party candidates for the Primary election. All nominated candidates will be filed with respective county clerks no later than 75 days before the Primary election.
The Colorado election calendar states that May 30th is the last date to hold district and state assemblies prior to the Primary election.
5. Justification/Goals:
=======================
The Democratic and Republican parties traditionally hold their nominating conventions near the end of the required filing period. To take advantage of the media coverage surrounding other party meetings and nominating conventions, the Araphoe Green Party proposes the above cited time and place for the purposes of conducting state business.
6. Pros and Cons:
=================
Pro:
Denver is centrally located and provides multiple options for lodging and dining. More media outlets will hopefully provide greater opportunites to maximize attention for nominated candidates and campaign issues for the upcoming elections. Having a new local as the primary host for the state meeting should provide positive publicity about the growth of the Green Party. The date of May 13th is far enough in advance to provide a cushion for required state filings yet not too soon hopefully to preclude appropriate council consent and notification to all state members.
Con:
We recognize this proposed date is 2 months earlier than last year’s meeting in Summit County and that it may not be as convenient for members traveling from around the state to make arrangements.
7. Alternatives to the proposal:
================================
Other dates may be possible, but the availability of suitable meeting halls is becoming limited. Earlier dates would necessitate rapid approval by the council. Later dates would create urgency in filing requirements with the Secretary of State. The above referenced time and place are presently reserved.
