PROPOSAL NUMBER: 010-04
PROPOSAL NUMBER: 010-04
1. Date proposed May 8, 2004.
Name of the sponsor(s): Marcia Wilson
2. PROPOSAL SUBJECT:Reinstatement of the Southwest Colorado Greens.
3. FULL PROPOSAL: Please reinstate the Southwest Colorado Greens local to active status in the Green Party of Colorado. The active members of the SWCOGreens are: Graham Johnson, Ethel Johnson, Wendy Mimiaga, Leslie Sesler, Tim Hovezak, Gail Binkly, David Grant-Long, Ned Harper, Pat Haynes, and Marcia Wilson.
4. BACKGROUND: Due to not having a representative at the April 24 State Meeting, the Southwest Colorado Greens were declared inactive. The reason a member of the SWCOGreens failed to attend was the weather that weekend.
5. JUSTIFICATION/GOALS: The Southwest Colorado Greens have been active throughout the year, and regret missing the State Meeting. Reinstating the SWCOGreens will increase the active membership of the GPCO and allow them to continue their work.
6. PROS AND CONS: Benefits: An additional local will represent the GPCO and SWCOGreens benefits from affiliation with the Green Party at a state level.
Drawbacks:The disenfranchisement of the members of the SWCOGreens, and the potential for travel in bad weather preventing active status.
7. Alternatives to the proposal: The GPCO could require additional steps and/or could leave the SWCOGreens inactive.
8. REFERENCES AND RESOURCES: SWCOGreens has been a highly active chapter for two years, has two members serving in city government, participates in state and West Slope GPCO meetings, meets regularly, and has plans for continuing activities and events in the community. Review of Past Voting Record on Council: SWCOGreens has two council members, neither of whom have missed three consecutive votes.
