PROPOSAL NUMBER: 020-04
PROPOSAL NUMBER: 020-04
1. Date proposed: August 14th, 2004
Name of the sponsor: Lanny Kness, GPCO Co-Chair
2. PROPOSAL SUBJECT:
GPCO to cover costs of Cobb Rally
3. FULL PROPOSAL:
On August 11th a rally was put on featuring David Cobb and other Front Range Green candidates. Items were purchased for this event by Tyler Kinkade and Lanny Kness. These items are:
A green with yellow lettering Go Green! banner for the GPCO ($105.63)
Cobb merchandise (buttons and window signs) ($40 plus $10 shipping)
Kness, as one of the coordinators of this event, tried to collect up front donations to cover all of the costs. He was only able to collect $50. This proposal asks the GPCO to reimburse Tyler Kinkade $55.63 and Kness $50.00 for the purchases they have made.
For this $105.63, the GPCO will now have a banner and has Cobb merchandise that it or its locals can use for getting contributions.
4. BACKGROUND:
The rally was planned in less than 2 weeks, so this left little time for the team of coordinators to get a Council proposal done first before buying lead time items (banner / Cobb merchandise). Kness had also hoped to fund the event from specific donations prior to the rally, but only found $50 in donations.
5. JUSTIFICATION/GOALS:
Simply, this is asking the GPCO to cover remaining costs for an event to benefit it and its candidates. Kinkade and Kness have contributed time and money beyond the amounts above for this event, and are asking only for partial reimbursement.
6. PROS AND CONS:
Benefits:
The GPCO will own a banner and the Cobb merchandise.
The $105.63 is a good value when the amount of media coverage received is considered.
Drawbacks:
Party members may be hesitant in the future to help out when there is a deadline.
7. Alternatives to the proposal
The GPCO is not under any obligation to reimburse this money since it did not authorize the purchases ahead of time. Therefore, it could decided not to do this though it would then be up to the individuals to determine what to do with the merchandise.
8. REFERENCES AND RESOURCES:
A receipt is available for the banner and merchandise purchases
